Ms. Destiny has one announcement before everyone is dismissed to find our parents and go home. She says, “Was that not fun?”

“We’ll see. But for now, we have to think about Monday morning and the Martin Luther King, Jr., Breakfast. We’ll need to meet at the center at 7:30 a.m. since it begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. Remember to dress in your green and white. A table has been reserved for us, so you don’t have to worry about a seat. Everyone clear on what to expect on Monday? Are there any questions?”

“Oh no, ma’am. We get it,” says Franklin.

“Yes, ma’am. We’ll be there,” exclaims Dontay.

“You don’t have to tell me twice,” Gerald shouts, patting his stomach and smiling, “—

especially if food is involved.”

We all high-five each other again, hug, and say our good-byes. It has been a great day. The YPD from Big Morning Star AME Church has participated in its first King Day Parade. We are so proud.
